Being Mortal Film Screening & Discussion

October 20, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

You’re invited to attend a free screening and panel discussion with local healthcare professionals on the PBS documentary, “Being Mortal.”  You will be a part of a national dialogue taking place in our community that asks, “Have you and your family had the tough conversations and planned ahead?”

“Being Mortal” delves into the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness.  The film investigates the practice of caring for the dying and explores the relationships between patients and their doctors.  It follows the surgeon, Dr. Atul Gwande, as he shares stories from the people and families he encounters.  When Dr. Gawande’s own father, his search for answers about how to best care for the dying becomes a personal quest.

VCU Department of Gerontology is partnering with Williamsburg Hospice House and Support Care and As You Wish Advance Care Planning on two upcoming events:    October 11th, at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News and October 20th Williamsburg Regional Library.  Both events are being held from 10 – 12.   Admission is free but registration is required.
